The Greek mathematician, physicist, and inventor of Syracuse, widely regarded as the greatest scientific mind of antiquity, famous for the cry of "Eureka!" and his work on levers, buoyancy, and the measurement of curves and spheres. His discoveries anticipated ideas not fully developed until the rise of calculus, and his blend of pure theory and ingenious invention has rarely been matched.
