An early Christian teacher and philosopher who sought to reconcile the faith with the riches of Greek learning, arguing that philosophy could be a path toward Christ. Writing in the great intellectual center of Alexandria, he helped lay the foundations of Christian theology and made the case that reason and revelation could work in harmony.
