Dune

When it comes to movies and books, I usually pass on works of science fiction. I prefer stories of people. The monsters, mutants, and in this case giant worms just don't do it for me. I also just have a hard time following all of the types of characters, the created world/planet, and the storyline. A story about people in New York is just easier for me.

I was hoping that Dune would open my mind more to the Sci-fi genre. I really liked reading Dune and tried to delve in deep to this book and get into the world and the characters. The story was addicting and had some great twists and turns. The author, Frank Herbert, would show multiple dimensions of a character through what they said, what they thought, and what others thought. I really enjoyed the verbal and non-verbal thinking cues throughout the book. I was also amazed at the level of detail and breadth of the created Dune world. It would be really neat to think through the creation of an entire world with rules, norms, types of beings, abundance, and scarcity.

I'm glad I read Dune, but I didn't enjoy it enough to want to keep reading the other Dune books.
