Reading While Black

I follow Esau McCaulley on Twitter and this book looks very interesting.

A call to consider the grand arc of the Bible from a different cultural viewpoint, particularly from the African American perspective. The idea I found most interesting was the importance of the Exodus story to the Black experience. If the choice of God's chosen people is narrowed down to two options - the Egyptian rulers or the enslaved - God chose the enslaved, the downtrodden, and the weak. Esau McCaulley considers this and other narrative arcs and places verses of Scripture from Isaiah, Jesus, and Paul within that context. It was very good.

If you've read Between the World and Me by Ta-Nehisi Coates, this would be a good follow up book.
